As AI interprets human hands as a continuous conglomerate mutation, human hands continue to remain a grounding to our surroundings and to ourselves.

One of the reasons why the image of hands and AI is so prevalent in Post-Internet Art is because they speak to the ever increasingly intertwined nature of humans and technology. Smartphones, computers, and other portable devices have become limbs; extensions of our own bodies and also as portals to other places and people.

Hands represent the physical, tangible world and our ability to manipulate objects and express ourselves through gestures, whilst AI represents the potential for machine intelligence to augment and enhance our limited bodily abilities, the virtual world and our ability to process vast amounts of data and automate tasks. The visual indent of human hands manipulated by machines makes us aware of the limits of technology, and whether there are certain aspects of the human experience that cannot be replicated by machines.

We could see this as a self portrait that’s actually quite accurate as AI as artist; the grotesque growths, the human error always present in the coding and bodily structure of the automated. We are fascinated by representations of ourselves.
